SH Group opens new office at the Port of Esbjerg

One of Denmark's largest suppliers of hydraulic, mechanical and electrical solutions for the offshore and marine industry, SH Group, held a housewarming party in its new premises at the Port of Esbjerg on Thursday 26 April. The company from Svendborg opened a small office at the port a year ago, but experienced rapid growth. This required new facilities, explains Bjørn Joensen, who is General Manager of SH Group's Esbjerg branch:

"Already from day one we had the idea of setting up a local repair shop, but events transpired much faster than expected. After only three months, we could see that the potential to expand was extensive," he explains.

The new building is located on Trafikhavnskaj next to Blue Water, from which SH Group has rented the premises. In addition to the office, the company has a 1,000 square metres refurbished workshop. According to Bjørn Joensen, it is far from coincidental that the new office is located in Esbjerg:

"Esbjerg has a really good logistical base for the type of activities we perform on the water. At the same time, the city is a pioneer in the offshore and marine industry. This creates optimal conditions for companies like ours, which would like to develop and bring innovative thinking into the industry," he explains.

Currently, there are 13 employees at the office and workshop, but Bjørn Joensen is hiring new people continuously.

"I expect there will be at least 20 employees in a year's time," he says. Most recently, SH Group, has supplied the hydraulic and electrical solution for the new "Landgangen" bridge in Esbjerg, among other things.

Construction of a new automobile terminal is in progress

On 1 May, the Port of Esbjerg began constructing SAL's (Scandinavian Auto Logistics, ed.) new automobile terminal at Librakaj in the East Port. The terminal will be 60,000 square metres, which is the equivalent of more than eight football pitches, and is planned for completion on 1 August 2018. Henning Have a/s is contractor for the job.

Project Manager at the Port of Esbjerg, Rasmus Ager, explains that 71,000 tonnes of crushed rocks will be required for the construction project. It will be supplied in three stages by ship from Norway.

"The crushed granite has a better carrying capacity than e.g. stable gravel. It is also smart that it is arriving by ship, as we don't have to transport it very far," he says.

The terminal will have 2.2 km of drainage pipes and 2 km of cable ducts. 1.2 km of curbs will fence in the 60,000 square metres area, which will have paving stones. The first consignment of granite stone equal to 27,000 tonnes is shown below.
