On Monday 11 September, a group of 22 cabinet ministers were given a tour of the port area in Esbjerg. “A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” said Ole Ingrisch, who used the occasion to bring attention to the Port’s ambitions with respect to green energy, among other things.

“Has anyone ever been able to speak to 22 cabinet ministers at the same time?” Mr Ingrisch asks rhetorically, before providing the answer himself:

“That just doesn’t happen. It was a fantastic opportunity for us,” said the Port Director.

Never before has an entire government set foot at the Port of Esbjerg at the same time, and for 75 minutes Mr Ingrisch had the attention of the 22 ministers as they were given a tour of the harbour area by coach. The cabinet ministers were in Esbjerg for a government seminar.

They were treated to historical anecdotes about the harbour, but the focus was certainly on current issues as well. Mr Ingrisch also had one-on-one talks with several of the ministers.

“But what we talked about will stay between us,” he says.

The tour of the harbour took 75 minutes, and the ministers were keen to ask about everything from the size of wind turbines to Horns Rev 3, renovation of the Tyra field, the current situation for oil and gas activities and much more.

Monday 11 September, a group of 22 cabinet ministers visited the Port of Esbjerg.

An eye-opener for most

Mr Ingrisch is pleased that the PoE had the opportunity to show the ministers the harbour.

“The visit was a real eye-opener for those who came from a different part of the country. We are a large port with many shipping operations, and we were able to promote the Port of Esbjerg and provide an insight into what is going on in the far west of the country,” explained Mr Ingrisch.

It was also an opportunity to promote some of the key issues at the Port of Esbjerg.

The politicians learned about the work going on at Horns Rev 3, but Mr Ingrisch also found an opportunity to talk about Horns Rev 4.

“We would certainly like to have political support for that project and we’d like support for a green transition. We would also like more focus on cable laying between the North Sea countries,” he says.

He believes the government visit was extremely well timed.

“Harbours are a key issue right now, and there’s a new port act under way, so this was good timing for both parties,” concludes Mr Ingrisch.
