Project overview
CO2.0 Infrastructure is a newly awarded project demonstrating the world’s first containerised transport of CO₂ in solid form (dry ice) using modified, super‑insulated ISO containers. The project establishes a modular, cost‑efficient and scalable infrastructure for CO₂ transport, enabling small and medium‑sized emitters to participate in CCUS value chains.
As part of the project, a pilot reliquefaction facility will be installed at Port Esbjerg to convert dry ice back into liquid CO₂ for onward delivery to Project Greensand.
Key activities
- Demonstration of a new logistics pathway for CO₂ transport using dry ice in containerised form at atmospheric pressure
- Development of a scalable, low‑CAPEX CO₂ transport solution compatible with existing global container networks
- Validation of a full transport chain, including dry ice production, containerised transport and reliquefaction
- Support for CCUS deployment targeting small and medium‑sized emitters in Denmark and the wider region
The initiative involves partners from industry, research institutions and logistics providers, including DecarbonICE (project lead), Port Esbjerg, Cold Jet, Aarhus University (AU‑BCE), Fremsyn/Renegas, Maersk Container Industry, AncoTrans and GreenGo Energy.
The project is expected to deliver a first‑of‑its‑kind dry‑ice CO₂ transport container with ultra‑low sublimation rates, two pilot reliquefaction units (seawater‑based and land‑based), and a validated end‑to‑end CO₂ transport chain ready for market rollout in 2028–2029.
