Project overview
The Hydrogen Valley project establishes four master plans for port‑based hydrogen infrastructure in Brest, Bremen, Den Helder and Esbjerg. The aim is to support long‑term scaling and coherence between hydrogen production, distribution and maritime application.
Hydrogen Valleys act as governance partnerships linking hydrogen production with end users and contributing to the development of future standards for vessel design, bunkering and port operations.
Key focus areas
- Development of a roadmap and timeline for the hydrogen economy across four port regions.
- Support of public–private collaboration on next‑generation energy infrastructure.
- Acceleration of maritime hydrogen solutions, including vessel design and bunkering planning.
- Improvement of governance frameworks for maritime hydrogen ecosystems.
The EU considers the North Sea a future hydrogen import corridor, requiring ports to cooperate on shared standards for shipping, terminals, storage and distribution.
The initiative involves partners from the ports of Brest, Bremen, Den Helder and Esbjerg working together on hydrogen infrastructure master planning.
