Maersk Oil and the DUC partners inject DKK 21 billion into the reconstruction of the Tyra Field

Plans to reconstruct and expand the sinking Tyra Field have been on the drawing board for a long time. On Friday 1 December, the plans became a reality when the partners behind the Tyra Field decided to allocate DKK 21 billion for the reconstruction. In their press release, the DUC partners state that this is the largest ever investment in the Danish sector of the North Sea.

The reconstruction is estimated to extend the life of the Tyra Field by 25 years and guarantees an output of 200 million barrels of oil equivalents, two-thirds in the form gas and one-third in the form of oil.

On Monday 11 December, the reconstruction partners assembled for a reception at Maersk Oil. Lars Christian Lilleholt, Minister for Energy, Utilities and Climate, Johnny Søtrup, former mayor of Esbjerg, and Jesper Frost Rasmussen, current mayor of Esbjerg, also took part in the festivities. Gretchen Watkins, CEO of Maersk Oil, said:

“Esbjerg can be proud of the city’s development in the oil industry over the past many decades. The Tyra Field not only brings thousands of jobs and ensures that Denmark’s reliability of supply is maintained – it also opens the door to many future investments in the North Sea.”

The reconstruction starts in November 2019 and runs until July 2022. During this period, the Tyra Field will be completely closed for production.
