By the year 2030, the port is expected to have insufficient capacity to match the increasing demand from its customers. Therefore, the port of Esbjerg has initiated a process to clarify the possibilities for expanding the port. The project is in public consultation until 18 April 2018.

Towards 2030, Esbjerg Havn sees opportunities for an increased level of activity both within its three existing business areas and within new business areas. However, the capacity of the port of Esbjerg will be fully utilized in a few years. Therefore, the Port of Esbjerg has initiated a process to clarify the possibility for an expansion, enabling the Port and its customers to continue to grow, which will benefit both owners and the entire region.

The municipality of Esbjerg has now initiated the first public consultation phase concerning the "Delimitation of the content of the environmental impact report for the expansion and operations of the South and East Ports of Esbjerg". The Port of Esbjerg has created a 3D model as part of an exhibit showcasing the project. The model will be on display in the foyer of the City Hall of Esbjerg until Easter. After Easter, the exhibit will be displayed at the City Hall of Fanø.
